I held off for years from buying cardboard scratchers for my cats. At the time, I had an enormous cat that put his weight behind his wrestling with the scratch post. I couldn’t imagine cardboard would last long around him.

However, when I finally did get cardboard scratchers (albeit with different cats), I was surprised just how durable they can be. Since then, I’ve discovered how many fun shapes and varieties they are available in.

Grooming Scratch Pad

The cardboard scratcher on this one is pretty standard, but it comes with an additional perk: a self grooming brush. I think it would depend on the cat if they would enjoy this or find the brush just an obstacle to using the scratching part. However, judging by the reviews and ratings on this, that doesn’t seem to be a problem for most cats.

PetFusion Ultimate Cat Scratcher Lounge

The Pet Fusion cat scratcher has taken off, with over sixteen thousand reviews on Amazon and average of 4.8 stars. While it may seem like an overpriced scratcher at first, the promised durability and long life would make it worthwhile. Plus, it has a nice sleek design. It’s definitely on our list!

PetFusion 3-Sided Vertical Scratcher

If you like the above one but want to mix it up a bit, here is another one from Pet Fusion. This one provides more options for playtime.

Petmate Scratch ‘n Play Ramp

This is a simple but effective ramp style scratch. My cats love the cardboard scratchers that have a slope so I could imagine this style being popular with the little furniture-destroyers.

Cardboard Cat Scratcher Lounge

This big oval shaped cat scratcher provides room to sharpen the nails and then a place to hang out afterwards. Grue loves to lounge on his cardboard scratchers. This one has the potential of being a big hit.

Cardboard Cat Scratcher Couch

Here is another that encourages lounging.
